Community Involvement

Ms. Russell acted as Treasurer for the Coalition Against Rent Control. She garnered support from the business community, hired a campaign manager and organized the campaign which resulted in a narrow defeat of the proposed rent control measure in the late 1970’s.

She was recognized by the real estate and legal community in Santa Cruz as an expert in the area of property management and landlord-tenant law, and was a resource to legal counsel representing the Santa Cruz Board of Realtors. Ms. Russell was a member of the Housing Task Force appointed by the Santa Cruz City Council and was a member of RIMS (Rental Information & Mediation Services). She also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce, the Santa Cruz Downtown Association, and the Santa Cruz Symphony.

Most recently, she has served as a Trustee for the Inner Wheel Foundation and on the finance committees of political campaigns for candidates for County Board of Supervisors, Secretary of State, State Assembly and State Senate races.
